Better Feed for Them Means Better Food for You

Posts Wednesday, March 7th

“Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are.” ~ Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, an epicurean and a connoisseur of good food.

As obvious as it is to say it, turkeys, just like humans, need food, and also like us, turkeys need quality feed that positively influences their health.

Like most people, I grew up assuming that we’d always had the best grain. Quality was synonyms with most farmers and sourcing this way back in the old days was easy to do. However, slowly, the industry and market shifted and began to undermine their quality in the name of operational efficiencies and harvesting yield.

Today it’s simply harder to source high quality grains that provide turkeys with high quality plant based protein. When we started recognizing the need to source grain that was different from what the industry wanted to offer us, we knew how we wanted our grain to be grown, the benefits to the environment when ecological sustainability is a consideration and the positive impact to health on the cellular level.

This knowledge has led us to the key tenants of the Diestel Difference; no cheap filler feeds, no least costing feed practices, no animal by-products, no antibiotics, and no chemicals used for fast growth promotion. The Diestel Difference led us to be the first to market in Organic in 1999, and the first in turkey to market Non-GMO Project Verified products.

While not all the products we produce are Organic or non-GMO we still align with farmers who are excited to grow grains that have not been genetically modified, we are making a difference.

Even as everything around us has shifted, we have chosen to maintain our standards, because nutrition, flavor, and quality are our priorities, and we know that high-quality grains lead to high-quality turkeys.
